On September 12, 1960, JFK (John F Kennedy) spoke to the Greater Houston Ministerial Association on religion and separation of church and state.
Granny always taught us to pray for our leaders and to honor the office, but I never heard her worry about separating church and state. She knew on who's shoulder the government rested. And, though visibly weaker, Granddaddy was still fishing. So, in November, when JFK was elected as the youngest man and the first Roman Catholic President, Granny said little.

In October, I graduated from the Hula Hoop Blue Birds. Since I would soon be a Camp Fire girl, Mama allowed me to iron my own shirt. Life was changing, and so far, the changes were good.

Today, looking closer at the certificate I see evidence of another milestone. That was fifty years ago, but even today, I can faintly remember a park, a softball game, moma and daddy, and a boy named Eddie.
