On September 2, 1945 Japan officially surrendered to the United States.

Caught up in the excitement that spread throughtout the country, Uncle Charles and Uncle Johnny ran to the road and shouted “The war is over!” Each person who passed the young boys tooted their car’s horn jubilantly acknowledging our country’s victory.

It would be the end of the last declared war for the United States, and ironically the last declared victory for the next sixty-five years.

But, deep in Granny’s heart another battle was brewing. She had not officially declared war, in fact, I'm not sure she even knew who she was fighting, but battle lines were being drawn.
