Granny's faith grew. When something went wrong with Barbara Anne’s foot, she made a vow to the Lord that if He healed her baby she would never bring her to a doctor. Barbara Anne remembers the night Brother Evans picked her up to pray for her. "When they finished praying, he put me down, "she said, "and I could walk." She was married and living in Jacksonville, Florida before she saw the first doctor.

God was blessing. Granddaddy sold property in Lake Charles, then, followed a dirt road in Westlake to a little hill on the corner of Hollis and River Road. The land overlooked several acres of good farmland and on the east side of the property, less than stone’s throw away, was his beloved river.

They finished building in July of 1952. After moving into the new home, Granny carried her faith a step further becoming one of Louisiana’s first brush arbor preacher ladies. People say Sister Hamilton drove up and down the back-roads of Southeast Louisiana, dragging souls to church in the back of a buckboard wagon.
